My Blogging Toolkit includes >

Blogging Platform:
WordPress :
I’ve been blogging for over a year now, and I have found Wordpress, the best blogging platform. I started with Blogger, moved to microblog, before settling on Wordpress. I’m using version 2.09 of wordpress right now.

Desktop Blogging Client:
BlogJet :
There are a lot of good desktop clients out there, but I have become most comfortable with BlogJet. It was after a long search that I have found this software. ScribeFire is also a good blogging add-in for Firefox.

Statistics Software:
Google Analytics, Tracewatch
Google Analytics is a free service by Google while Tracewatch is a free PHP Script to monitor your website.

Blog Promotion and feed:
Technorati, Feedburner :
So far, I am also using the ping feature of BlogJet to notify a large list of services each time I post. There’s more work to be done in this area.

Browser:
Firefox – While a browser may not be a blogging tool, but, I find Firefox simplifies the blogging experience. The ability to keep a number of tabs open to links, or while researching and reading related information is helpful. I keep a number of regular bookmarks on the bookmark toolbar, which get a lot of use, along with the Google toolbar for Firefox.

Graphics:
ACDSee 8.0 – I don’t have a lot to do with graphics. Most of what I want to do with an image is crop or resize. ACDSee lets me do that easily as well as being able to play around with other graphics features.

Cricket World Cup 2007

Cricket World Cup 2007 is about to start in a couple of days and cricket fans are eagerly waiting to watch the series of exciting matches (including me :) )

But a series of events pertaining to Pakistan, shows that Pakistan will not be able to satisfy his cricket fans. The Akhtar and Asif’s Doping issue, Shahid Afridi not playing initial matches and a lot of events have added a lot in making the team unorganised. Our team has lost unity and probably not ready for the World Cup !

However, this time I think Australia will not be going to win the world Cup. Their position is already weak after they they are defeated badly, and also they are World Number 2 now …

In my opinion, it will be either South Africa or New Zealand to become the Cricket World Champions for 2007 !

What do you people think ?

1st of January was a very busy day !
After the Eid Prayers, the Bakra stuff started.
Bakra Ziba kerna and then dividing it into three parts, and then distributing it among the needy people, took me almost the whole day …. The only time, I enjoyed was the evenning and night, when I hanged out with Friendz and blah blah !

All the Mobile Networks rather stopped working at 12:00 of 1st Januray. The new Year SMS which I sent, were delivered to the recipents at about 3:00 and 4:00 AM. Amazing Isn’t it ?

Pakistan University Rankings 2006

Recently, Higher Education Commission, Pakistan launched its first official University Rankings of Pakistan. In my view it is a good move, as it will promote the spirit of competition and awareness among the Pakistani people.

Since, I am a student of Engineering so I will stick to Engineering profession only. It is rather a pleasure for me that my university NUST is ranked as second. But one setback for me was regarding NED. How can it be ranked as No. 10th ? A long discussion has already been made about this issue at Pakistaniat [dot] Com.

I also came across the name PIEAS for the first time. Moreover, GIK should have been placed above NUST for its more research oriented and qualitative studies.

Engineering
1. Pakistan Institute of Engg. and Applied Sciences, Islamabad
2. National University of Sciences & Technology Rawalpindi
3. Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering, Swabi
4. University of Engg. & Technology (UET), Lahore
5. Mehran University of Engg. & Technology (MUET), Jamshoro
6. University of Engg. & Technology (UET), Taxila

Coming to the Business Studies Category, I will agree with HEC as LUMS and IBA are the main institutions in this category :

Business
Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore
Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi

However, while announcing this ranking, Dr Attaur Rehman, HEC chairman said that no Pakistani university met international standards and none ranked among the top 1,000 universities of the world.

This is rather something shameful for us and our government should focus on the promotion and improvement of our Higher education system.
