Recently, Higher Education Commission, Pakistan launched its first official University Rankings of Pakistan. In my view it is a good move, as it will promote the spirit of competition and awareness among the Pakistani people.
Since, I am a student of Engineering so I will stick to Engineering profession only. It is rather a pleasure for me that my university NUST is ranked as second. But one setback for me was regarding NED. How can it be ranked as No. 10th ? A long discussion has already been made about this issue at Pakistaniat [dot] Com.
I also came across the name PIEAS for the first time. Moreover, GIK should have been placed above NUST for its more research oriented and qualitative studies.
Engineering
1. Pakistan Institute of Engg. and Applied Sciences, Islamabad
2. National University of Sciences & Technology Rawalpindi
3. Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering, Swabi
4. University of Engg. & Technology (UET), Lahore
5. Mehran University of Engg. & Technology (MUET), Jamshoro
6. University of Engg. & Technology (UET), Taxila
Coming to the Business Studies Category, I will agree with HEC as LUMS and IBA are the main institutions in this category :
Business
Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore
Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi
However, while announcing this ranking, Dr Attaur Rehman, HEC chairman said that no Pakistani university met international standards and none ranked among the top 1,000 universities of the world.
This is rather something shameful for us and our government should focus on the promotion and improvement of our Higher education system.
Nice post!!! & best wishes for your engineering profession in coming future
Thanks for stopping by & for linking Pakistani Pictures
all the best!
Added to the directory. Thanks for stopping by.
Who is to blame for the poor condition of our universities. Is it the Govt.’s fault and no one else is to be blamed. I would like ot differ. I think the responsibility of improving the conditions lies on our shoulders as well. Who makes a university good or bad. I would sy in most parts its the people who study there. We need ot pick up pace and potential if want to compete.
The other problem is that the world rnking are highly biased towards the amount of research going on in a university. We all know that research is directly proportional to money. Money makes the research go. Nothing else does. believe me i have seen the top notch labs in teh world and the people over there have rseemingly redundant ideas but momney makes them the best.
We need resources to improve the rankings.
Umm…one thing I noticed is that the 2nd ranking is given to NUST, RAWALPINDI. And NUST Karachi is nowhere in sight! What is that supposed to mean? Isnt it recognized?
WAiting for the 2007 RAnkings to arrive….
this ranking is nothing but rubbish
NED is the most popular university of pakistan and the oldest one also it should not be at 10th
engr. of mehran even dont know elimentry things but it is on 5th
this is extremely “BAKWAAS” ranking of the whole world
Ya its good but we should move as quickly as leopard thats our founder wants Govt should take responsibilty Im 4om UET Lahore
Waiting for 2007 ranking. Hope NUST be at the top of Engg. Universities in pakistan and be among the top 100 universities of the world as it currently at 470th
.
i only say that university is based not only with studies in it it is based on student as well they should have creativity by self and marit should be high and no self finance student should be entered in a top universities..it is my advise to all chancllers and HEC too to make a rule of not giving self finance admissions on top university so that we can compete the world top universities…
mehranian are the best in all over the pakistan,
and i hope coming year this will be on number 1
UET is the Best of All
